We had the unique opportunity to visit a truly magical place: Hakone (箱根). Nestled within the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, this area is famous for its hot springs, stunning landscapes, and breathtaking views of Mount Fuji from across Lake Ashinoko. A favorite getaway for both locals and international travelers, Hakone offered us the perfect chance to slow down and reconnect — not just with nature, but with ourselves and each other.

🚢 A Lake Like No Other
We also boarded a majestic and elegant ship that carried us across Lake Ashinoko, where the waters shimmered under the soft summer light. The silence, the breeze, the mountains all around — it was simply stunning.

Soon after, the landscape shifted, ashy mountain slopes and ochre-colored ridges surrounded us, with the scent of some nature and organic minerals in the air — a reminder that we were near Japan’s famous geothermal springs. It truly felt like stepping onto another planet.

🍜 Local Flavors, Deep Roots
Students, explored and decided to try new local flavors unique to the region. From black eggs boiled in volcanic hot springs to sweet egg soft cream, Hakone awakened our taste buds in the most unexpected ways.
⛩️ History in the Trees, Peace on the roads
One of the most powerful parts of the trip was walking through Hakone’s ancient natural park. With every step on the quiet trail, students felt the presence of time. There was no rush here. Just reflection, breath, and peace.

🖼️ Art, Imagination, and Shared Wonder
Hakone is also home to the Open-Air Museum, a magical place where art lives among the mountains. Sculptures of all sizes peeked out from the hills, inviting students to interact, explore, and imagine.
From thought-provoking pieces to playful spaces, it reminded us that creativity and nature can coexist beautifully.
Don’t miss the next chapter of our journey, where we share the incredible cultural exchange we experienced during our visit to a Japanese school in Tokyo — a day full of learning, laughter, and meaningful connection across cultures.
