Days are flying by as students (and staff) get to know each other and all the different neighbourhoods Tokyo has to offer!
On Thursday all the seminar groups went out together to learn one of Japan’s most well-known craft: origami.

After a lunch break, each seminar gathered with their own smaller groups again, and went off to another part of Tokyo city for their afternoon lectures.

Friday we visited a sumo-restaurant. We learned about the rules of sumo wrestling and got to see two real sumo fighters train and battle while also being served a delicious, home-cooked sumo meal. After that was the students’ chance to test their skills against real sumo fighters! Some of them managed to push the sumo’s out of the ring: now THAT is something to brag about at home… đ

Friday afternoon we mixed up the groups again and went to Harajuku for a shrine visit and a creative activity, Shimokitazawa for vintage shopping in a hip Japanese neighbourhood, admiring art at the Hokusai (artist who made “The Wave”) and exploring Asakusa and training at a Brazilian jiu-jitsu gym.

Saturday was a day with our seminar groups again. The Technology seminar visited a robot cafe. The servers are robots operated by real people who â because of injury, illness or other reasons â cannot physically come to work. A very special and touching initiative!

We can’t wait to tell you more about our adventures over the next few days! Please stay tuned for our reports of Sunday-Fun-Day and our day trip to the beach town of Kamakura!
